No matter what speed you like to travel, make sure you’re having some fantastic experiences along the way…and make sure your partner is in contract with the pace!

It’s as much as you to choose exactly how sluggish or quick you want to travel. often we like to travel incredibly slow

6 important ideas to travel The Maldives On a budget plan

A tropical nation with white sandy beaches, turquoise waters, plentiful marine life, exquisite luxury, as well as palm trees – the 1190 islands of the Maldives, strewn across the Indian Ocean, is the stuff of dreams. Unfortunately, the appeal has far been hidden from the eyes of backpackers thanks to the astronomical expense of travelling in the Maldives.

However, things are starting to look up for the budget-savvy travellers ever considering that the government shook up a few tourism legislations in 2011. Today, with cautious planning & a few wise hacks, the Maldives can be done without triggering a severe dent to your finances.

Choosing Your Island of Stay

Most travellers to Maldives tend to very first book a ‘resort’ based on their preferences as well as then plan their trip around it – a decision that can verify costly. Maldives, unlike prominent conception, is a large country. getting to a few of the islands in the extreme south or extreme north takes a lot more than 6 hours from the funding of male as well as a lot of resorts only operate ‘seaplanes’ to take travellers there.

Resorts that are served only by seaplanes are likely to fee as much as $300-400 for a return seaplane trip from Male. This cost can be totally cut down by selecting an island that is fairly better to Male.

The better islands are easily accessible by speed boats as well as it will expense you around $130-140 for a return trip. When you are choosing your island of choice, cross-reference its distance from male as well as ask about the ‘transport’ costs.

Irrespective of which island you choose, expect bright blue skies, white sand, as well as rich eco-friendly trees
Guesthouses vs. Resorts

There is no question that the resorts in the Maldives are world-class as well as qualify as a when in a lifetime experience, however it isn’t the only reason to go to this sensational tropical nation. A night in a few of the most fundamental resorts expense upwards of $200 for a double space – nearly five times that of a respectable hotel stay in a lot of countries. In 2011, the Maldivian government passed a legislation that enabled for locals to run guesthouses as well as turn their homes into homestays.

Today, there are lots of guesthouses/ homestays all across the Maldives with an typical cost of about $75 – $80 for a double room. There are likewise a variety of cost effective luxury options, which is a cross between hotels & resorts. Guesthouses in Maldives is a web site that curates a few of the very best guesthouses in the country. Upon putting in a request, you’ll get a full bundle offer from the guesthouses pointed out on the site, based on availability.

Whether you stay in a high-end resort or a guesthouse, sunsets in the Maldives will be similarly gorgeous
Half-Board vs. Full-Board

Almost all lodging choices in the Maldives supply full-board packages, i.e the nightly cost comes inclusive of three meals a day. All accommodations likewise supply half-board bundles where lunch is excluded. Going for the ‘breakfast only’ bundle is likewise an option, however we strongly vouch for the half board package.

Most of the islands in the Maldives that have guesthouses / resorts are normally sparsely populated or uninhabited. As a result, there are extremely few restaurant choices (or none) besides where you stay. There might be a supermarket however they’re nothing like the 7-11’s that you’ll see in other parts of Asia.

Having stated that, you’re likely to be included in some outside activities like a sandbank trip or a diving expedition during lunch hours, making the half-board bundle the most appropriate option.

A grand spread of sumptuous sea-food meals with unforgettable views is guaranteed

Travel Off – Season

Ok, we understand that traveling off-season is a universal as well as obvious budget-saving tip. But, in the Maldives, it becomes all the a lot more crucial. A night in a hotel can expense upwards of $200 during the height season, while in the carry season, the exact same space can be under $50. On special events like Christmas, new Year’s as well as Valentine’s Day, nearly all locations will fee you a special ‘festival’ surcharge too.

The finest time to go to the Maldives is between may & November. While you’re likely to encounter some rainfall during this time, it’ll boost your possibilities of spotting unusual aquatic creatures like hammerhead sharks, manta rays as well as whale sharks that regular the opulent waters of the Maldives.

With less tourists on the beaches, you might have the entireisland to yourself, while costs a great deal less money than during the high season.

Traveling off-season benefits you not just economically however likewise takes you far from the maddening crowds

Use Public Ferry

As discussed earlier, speedboats as well as seaplanes are the two a lot of typical methods of transfer from the flight terminal to your location of stay. They’re normally arranged for twice a day as well as one of the timings would a lot of likely in shape in with your arrival time, making it a extremely practical option.

But, if time isn’t a aspect for you, think about utilizing the public ferry for transfer. the public ferries are utilized by the regional Maldivians to travel between the funding & other islands. While there won’t be any type of welcome drink or wet tissues upon boarding, it will take you from point A to point B safely for as low as $2 – $3.

The catch is with the timing of these ferries. They run only on a few days as well as at certain times. A total routine of public ferries is offered here. Take a look at it before booking your flights. If you can time your flight to match with the public ferry timings, you’ll save upwards of $100!

A public ferry (right) is not just simple on your budget however likewise provides you a taste of regional Maldivian life
Spend On The ideal Activities

Apart from lazing about on its sun-kissed beaches, the Maldives uses many water sports – from surfing to deep-sea diving. Almost all guest homes as well as resorts offer a variety of these activities that you can undertake, for an additional cost.

On average, each snorkelling trip is priced around $30 while an open-water diving program will expense you around $500. depending upon your location of stay, these costs can vary substantially (all the a lot more reason to select a guesthouse instead of a resort!).

You can save some severe money by mindfully curating the experiences you want to have. considering that every Maldivian island has an in-house reef, you might lease snorkel devices as well as peep into the underwater life without having to go on a certain tour.

Unless the snorkelling trip takes you to a special area full of whale sharks, hammerhead sharks or manta rays, prevent it as well as go snorkelling yourself for a fraction of the price. While dolphin cruises are quite popular, you’re likely to area them anyway without going on a special excursion for the exact same experience. If you’re seriously into diving or surfing, stay at a location that has an in-house diving / surfing centre.

The in-house reefs of Maldivian islands teems with aquatic life that you won’t get sufficient of!

The Maldives may not be a backpacker’s paradise like Thailand or Vietnam. But, it can still be done on an cost effective budget. rest assured, the moment you see the coral islands from your airplane seat, money won’t even cross your mind.

HOW YOU CAN help THE next GENERATION OF responsible TRAVELERS

Posted: 4/16/18 | April 16th, 2018

Travel gives us perspective, challenges our expectations, and opens the door to new possibilities. It forces us to see the world and ourselves in a a lot more profound way. I believe that it makes us better people. It gives us experience and understanding that you don’t get when you simply stay in your little corner of the world. It’s like that scene in good will hunting when Robin Williams say to Will:

So if I asked you about art, you’d probably give me the skinny on every art book ever written. Michelangelo, you know a lot about him. Life’s work, political aspirations, him and the pope, sexual orientations, the whole works, right? but I’ll bet you can’t tell me what it smells like in the Sistine Chapel. You’ve never actually stood there and looked up at that beautiful ceiling.

Reading about something is one thing. Experiencing it is in real life is completely different. I know travel is no panacea. It’s not going to end hunger or bring about world peace. but it does give us perspective and experience. It gives us understanding and makes us a lot more open. It teaches us possibility.

At a time when the world seems to be splitting apart, travel can at least give us a sense of understanding and community.

And that is why I created FLYTE, our community charity created to give the gift of travel and education to young kids who grow up in places where that seems like a pipedream. Its mission is to expand their minds, show them that the world is full of possibility, and get them to dream big.

Today, I am announcing our next partner school!!!!

Travel has profoundly impacted the lives of the young students we’ve served.

Take Kaleb. He traveled with FLYTE to Mexico in 2016, and now he’s a sophomore at DePauw university studying political science and African studies. This past January, he took a trip study abroad to South Africa and is planning another one to Europe. As he says,

Traveling internationally better informed me not only as a young adult but as a global citizen. The experiences I have had traveling internationally during high school made me a lot more competitive when applying for college and expanded my social consciousness. I can say that I now am a lot more ready to interact with people of diverse backgrounds.

This why FLYTE exists and why I’m so pleased of what we have accomplished together. Over 1,200 individuals have helped us grow FLYTE by spreading the word, volunteering, and donating to our fundraisers. We’ve sent close to 40 kids overseas and raised nearly $100,000 to make that happen.

So, I’m pleased to announce that after a long, rigorous application process, our next partner school is The Victor school from Victor, Montana!

Victor is a tight-knit community about 45 miles south of Missoula. The entire K-12 school system only has 300 students. Lindsey Egelston, the teacher who will be leading this trip, describes that in Victor, “poverty is high and higher education levels are low, and lots of of our students’ families struggle to make ends meet.”

In June, FLYTE will send Lindsey and her students to Guatemala for ten days, where they’ll navigate the cobblestone streets of Antigua, explore the villages along Lake Atitlán, ignite their taste buds at the Chichicastenango market as well as volunteer with local organizations.

Living so far outside a metropolitan area makes it hard for these students to interact with a diverse range of people. This trip is a chance for these students to see the world, experience new cultures, see the power of education, and see the possibility that exists beyond their small town. It’s a chance to spark an interest in the world and education.

Today, I’m asking for your help. As someone who understands the transformative power of travel, you know how much these experiences can change a student’s life.

I can’t send these kids on this trip without you. We’re trying to raise $30,000 USD for this trip. I’ll be matching donations up to $10,000 and any extra money we raise can be put towards future trips.

Please consider joining our FLYTE crew monthly giving program and help supply the sustainable support we need to serve a greater number of students. If 100 people give $25 a month, we could fund this trip and an additional trip this year!

Not ready to give monthly? A one-time donation still allows us to send the Victor school abroad. select the one-time option to donate today.

I know this is a budget travel web site and a lot of of us don’t have a lot of money but for the cost of a few drinks, you can pay it forward and help great a new generation of responsible travelers!

We at FLYTE want to create a a lot more peaceful, tolerant world, where everyone, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, or socioeconomic status, is empowered to live to their full potential. This starts with our youth and we want to serve a lot more of them.

At a time when people are building up barriers, dictators and nationalism are on the rise, social media brings out the worst in us, it’s a lot more crucial than ever we do what we can to counteract our worst impulses.

If you’re the type of person that believes love trumps hate, help us help these kids.

If you’re the kind of person that is trying to find a way to spread the power of travel, help us help these kids.

Let’s pay all our travel kindness forward and send these kids from the small town on Victor to Guatemala.

Thank you!

But when you’re just starting out, you’re not going to hire people to help you, so it’s essential that you learn efficiency in the early days and put yourself on a calendar. In this post I’m going to break down what you can do each day of the week, to make sure that you’re growing your audience and building your blog as fast as possible.

Of course nobody ought to work 7 days a week, so give yourself a day off. For the purpose of this calendar I made this day Sunday, but the charm of working for yourself is that you can take any day off you like.

These proven methods have helped us to grow our social media to over 120,000 followers, our blog to over 150,000 monthly visitors and our income to a point that allows us to travel full time and put money in the bank. We didn’t manage to get this far by having previous experience in blogging, degrees or webmaster skills. We did it by following a schedule to success.

Today I’m going to share that schedule with you and if you follow it day after day, and repeat it week after week for the first few months of your blog’s life, you’ll grow it much faster than you ever thought possible.

Let’s get started.

Blog Basics

I’m going to write this post in a calendar form at the bottom, which will show you exactly what you ought to do on each day of the week, but first it’s essential that I discuss each point so that when you’re reading the calendar, you’ll be able to understand what I imply by each task listed.

Rather than writing out repetitive steps in the calendar, I’ll discuss them all here. once you understand them properly, you can read (or print out) the calendar to get started.

Guest post reach Out

I’ve said it numerous times on this blog, the absolute best way to grow your audience when you’re starting out is to guest post for other blogs. If you’re not sure what guest posting is, or how you can go about asking bloggers to guest post, check out this post. It has everything you’ll need to know about how to (and not to) guest post.

Reaching out to bloggers ought to be an integral part of your weekly schedule for success. even if they deny your request to guest post, you can still form an email relationship with them that could show important down the road.

Write an Article

Of course, in purchase to have content, you’ll have to write it first. As in some cases it takes a long time to write an article, I’ve separated your writing and publishing into 2 tasks. This will also give you the opportunity to correctly review each short article before publishing.

You’ll notice that there are much more “Write an article” tasks than “Publish an Article” noted in the calendar. That’s because you’ll also be writing for other publications, so some of the time you’ll be writing guest posts. If you’re doing everything right, you ought to be writing an short article – start to finish – nearly every day.

Publish an Article

This one’s pretty self-explanatory. Of course, if you’re trying to grow a blog, you’ll have to have some blog posts. It’s essential that you publish articles on your blog on a particular schedule. Google likes your blog to be a reputable source of content, like a newspaper, and will reward you for posting on a schedule.

To help keep your schedule, download the WP Editorial Calendar Plugin

Go into your Google Analytics, look at your monthly summary and click “Hours” so that the graph shows your visitors by hour. now look for any peaks in the graph, if these peaks happen day after day at the same time of day, that’s the busiest time on your site and that’s the hour you ought to publish new content.

Publish A Resource

I’ve talked about it before, content is king. sure you can write articles about your recent trip or about how you went snorkelling with whale sharks, but your readers are also going to want to learn from your blog.

Every successful blog has its own resources. These are usually “epic” posts, upwards of 8 – 10,000 words with screenshots, pictures, maps etc. These are also known as your pillar content, as they usually make up for a considerable amount of your traffic.

An example of pillar content on our blog would be our travel Guides. They’re a lot of work, in some cases taking days to complete, but in a unusual field of dreams kind of way “If you write it… they will come”.

Great articles will get shared and will help you to grow an audience. You ought to publish a resource once a week (if possible) when you’re first starting out.

Comment

Another terrific way to get your name out there is to comment on other blogs, forums, sites and videos. Make sure that you always add your site to the comment form, but never add a URL into the comment itself. simply type your name and the name of your blog, then your blog URL under where it says “website”, and your comment below in text-only format.

Some good places to comment are on any blogs on this list or Lonely planet Forum, Quara, Boots’nAll blog or forums, NomadicMatt forums, TravelPulse.com, WiseBread.com, YouTube Videos.

Reply To Comments

As you’re publishing articles, your readers are likely to comment on them. Make sure you take time to reply so that you can build a community around your blog.

Reply To Emails

Similarly, emails are a terrific way to connect with your readers and followers. but don’t waste your time reading emails 9 times per day. rapidly read and reply all at once every 3 – 5 days.

Send Newsletter

If you haven’t started an email newsletter yet, you’re already behind. Every single blog ought to begin building an email newsletter list as soon as possible. We currently have 16,000 subscribers in our newsletter, which is great, but we didn’t start our email list until we had already been blogging for nearly a year!

Start your newsletter with MailChimp for totally free and start building your email list. You ought to send an email to your subscribers on a schedule (just like publishing posts) so that they know when they can expect your updates in their inbox. typically once a week, or once every two weeks is a terrific start.

Big Media Application

This is similar to a guest post reach out, but it’s actually contacting big media sites like MSN, travel & Leisure, Lonely planet etc. With my schedule to success, you’re going to spend a lot of time reaching out to big media publications and many likely, much of this time will be wasted.

Nick’s mother With The Goats edition of The Vancouver Sun

While bloggers may accept guest messages quite frequently, you’re likely to get a lot of no’s from big media. but if you can land a guest post on a big site like company Insider or Forbes, the payoffs can be enormous, so it’s worth the time pitching.

Don’t get discouraged, learn from your mistakes, hone your pitching skills and keep at it. If you can get a hit on big media, it’ll likely be a home run for your blog traffic and audience.

Work On SEO

It’s essential that every blog has a good foundation in SEO (Search Engine Optimization) so that Google can correctly read, index and rank your website. Make sure you download the Yoast SEO plugin for WordPress and use it to maximize your on page SEO.

The plugin itself does a terrific job of discussing how to optimize your messages step by step, but essentially you want each short article on your blog to have a green light.

“Working on SEO” includes going back in old messages and adding keywords and repairing the readability so every post has a green light in Yoast. It also involves interlinking older messages with new ones and visa versa, as well as emailing bloggers to ask them to link to you if you have a resource that’s relevant to a post that they have on their blog.

Be warned, you shouldn’t reach out to bloggers to ask for links until you already know them.

Study

You ought to think of building your blog like you’re in a university. You’re essentially home schooling yourself and you have to instruct yourself all of the ins and outs of the trade. The interesting thing about this university is that there’s no degree at the end.

You’ll literally continue to learn and grow for as long as you have your blog. It’s essential that you research and learn about everything to finish with blogging on a regular basis.

Some good resources for learning include: NeilPatel.com, QuickSprout Blog, SmartPassiveIncome.com, Moz Blog, ProBlogger & travel blogger Academy.

Social Media Basics

Just as with the blog basics, here is a breakdown of the most essential things you ought to be doing on social media. social media basics are relatively easy once you get the hang of them, but they do take time. Every single day you ought to be doing all of the following.

Create Pinterest Images

Head over to Canva.com, join for totally free and learn how to create Pinterest images there. These images are long and narrow (Canva has a design template with exact dimensions) and have been proven to be the most clicked.

Pinterest images ought to look like This
Pinterest is likely to be one of your top traffic earners down the road, so spend a lot of time on it. Create a Pinterest image for every short article you do and submit it to the bottom of your messages with text that says something like: “Like this article? Pin it!”

Apply For Pinterest group Boards

In purchase to have your Pins seen and to grow your Pinterest traffic, you’ll have to get your account accepted in group boards. search around Pinterest for popular group boards in your niche and apply for them. once you have joined a few, you can start posting in them.

Pin and Repin in group Boards

Now that you have access to some group boards, you ought to pin (and repin) your articles inside of the boards.

Social Share – Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc.

This is pretty self-explanatory as well, but there are different types of social shares like live videos, photos posts, one liners and short article shares. each time I say “Social Share” in the calendar, which is every single day, it implies you ought to do one share on every account you have (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc.) as well as one live video on Facebook and a few stories on Instagram throughout the day.

At first, it’ll seem like a lot, but when you’re first starting out you really need your followers to get to know you, so live videos, videos and daily shares (with or without photos) are all important. To engage your readers and save time, twice a week on Twitter and Facebook, you can count one of your shares as a easy one line question like “What’s your preferred beach in the world?”

Reply To Comments

Just like on your blog, it’s essential that you keep communication with your followers on social media.

Follow / Unfollow

This is a controversial strategy for growing your social media following, but for new bloggers who don’t have money to pay for advertising, it’s the absolute best way. essentially what you do is head to your Instagram & Twitter account, find people in your niche and follow them. I’m not going to get too into it hear, but I think Neil Patel puts it best:

“Here’s the rationale. If these 69.6k people chose to follow @successfield, then they might choose to follow me, too. I’m in the same niche, same industry, and am offering just as much value (if not more!).”

Neil has an amazing blog & social media following so he should be doing something right.

By when you follow people on Twitter or Instagram, they’ll get a notification to follow you back. If they like your account, you’ll likely get a follow back.

This is a terrific way to blow up your Instagram and Twitter by thousands of people each week, but their are limitations. Don’t follow much more than 50

Diving in Grenada With Dive Grenada

After living in Grenada for nearly four years, I feel like we’ve seen quite a bit of the country. We’ve driven around the island, sailed up the western coast, gone on hashes, enjoyed rum tours and so much more.

There are so many things to do in Grenada!

But, I was yet to see our beautiful Caribbean home from below the surface of the sea.

When I decided to go diving here, I picked my dive shop the same way I pick all of my dive shops… on trip Advisor. Dive Grenada was number one with some great reviews so I felt confident heading out with them.

Dive Grenada is affiliated with the stunning mount Cinnamon Grenada accommodations. This boutique luxury hotel offers awesome activities for free, beautiful rooms, friendly staff and two fantastic restaurants.

REMEMBER: Don’t miss the awesome video at the bottom of this article!

Here’s what it’s like to go diving with Dive Grenada!

History Of The Dive Shop

Set right on the nicest stretch of sand in Grenada (Grand Anse Beach), Dive Grenada truly has the perfect location, but the owners, Phil & Helen, may not have always thought so.

Back in 2004 when they first opened the shop, everything seemed to be going smoothly… for about 5 weeks. Hurricane Ivan soon bombarded this lovely beach-front business and basically swept away everything that they had worked so hard to create.

Shortly thereafter, Phil was trying to rebuild the shop, fell from a ladder and broke his hip, which left him debilitated for many months. Somehow, through this catastrophe, Phil and his wife were able to pull through and today they run the most recommended dive shop on the island.

“Dive Grenada is the phoenix that rose from the ashes.”

-Phil

The Dive sites around Grenada

After 6 dives around Grenada, I was blown away by the abundant sea life and healthy coral. I always love a good reef dive, but the best diving in Grenada is the shipwrecks.

Dive shops here frequently head out to 9 different wreck dives and while I only had the chance to do 3, I hope that I can return and explore some more of these sunken barges.

Happy Valley

This dive site is actually inside of Grenada’s Marine protected area and, like many sites here, it’s not a far boat trip from the dive shop. The visibility was great and we were lucky enough to spot multiple spotted and green eels, two turtles and an octopus, among countless other small fish and crustaceans.

Veronica. L

This is one of Grenada’s many outstanding shipwreck dives and after just a few minutes exploring her cavernous haul, I could see why it’s such a popular site.

It was outstanding how much coral had materialized on her outer bow and deck. This old cargo ship even had an air pocket where we were able to poke our heads out of the water, while being 15 meters below the surface.

I was happy to dive this wreck twice and I enjoyed it even more the second time!

Cojack checking Out Some Fish On Veronica. L

MV Shakem

Another great wreck dive, there is plenty to explore aboard the MV Shakem. The captain’s quarters and kitchen are still intact, as is her massive propeller at around 40 meters in depth. I spotted a couple of moray eels peering out from her many nooks and crannies.

Japanese Garden

Aside from the wrecks, this was probably my favourite dive. here we had a really relaxing time just floating over a massive garden of hard and soft corals. the most notable thing we spotted was a green eel that looked like a sea snake, but even without any large sea life, the dive was incredible.

Bianca C

This enormous 180-meter long cruise liner sunk way back in 1963 after a massive explosion in the boiler room caused it to start taking on water.

Today the ship is locally known as “The Titanic Of The Caribbean” and makes for one hell of a dive site. At about 50 meters in depth, it’s reserved for advanced divers only, and even though it has deteriorated over the past few decades, Bianca C is still in great shape.

The only problem with this dive is that it’s deep, so we had to ascend before I was finished exploring!

The Bianca C (Image from Wikipedia.org)

Other Dives

Grenada has many other great dive sites and almost all of them are vacant of other divers. This little Caribbean jewel is a dive secret, spoken about in hushed tones between those “in the know”. For more about the outstanding dives in around Grenada, check out the Dive Grenada website.

Eco-Minded scuba Diving

If you’re like me and you prefer to dive with an eco-minded outfitter, then you can’t do any better than Dive Grenada. The owners, Phil and Helen, not only ensure that their dive masters are eco-friendly and marine educated, but they also have an outstanding project underway.

The program is called Grand Anse Reef Regeneration project (GARRP) and Phil has created a series of underwater pyramids using cinderblocks to try to regenerate some of the coral lost during the hurricanes.

He has sunk 14 to the bottom of the bay near Grand Anse Beach and they’ve already started to produce an incredible amount of coral. The many cracks and openings in the porous blocks allow for the coral to grow quickly and they create places for fish and other reef species to hide.

GARRP (Image By: Phil of Dive Grenada)
Not only has Phil founded and personally financed GARRP, but he’s also taken the time to educate local school children about the importance of marine ecosystems and their direct impact on Grenada’s fishing industry and overall quality of life.

The secret is getting Out!

Although it’s great to have such outstanding dive sites all to yourself, diving could be a valuable income stream for the faltering economy of this country. luckily for Grenada, it won’t be long before more people start discovering the underwater bounty that rims these shores.

If you’re planning to head to Grenada, you should definitely plan to get under the sea and explore these coral-covered coastlines. If you’re not a diver, consider heading out on a snorkel trip. No matter how you get out there, you won’t want to miss the outstanding sea life around this tiny island.

Check out this quick video of my awesome dives in Grenada!

To book your dives with Dive Grenada, check out www.DiveGrenada.com or contact Phil via email.

A special thank-you to Dive Grenada for hosting me on my 6 scuba dives around the island. As always, I was not asked to write a positive review and all thoughts and opinions remain my own.

SCHENGEN VISA via GREEK EMBASSY: Requirements, Appointment, Application

Last updated: 2020 • 3 • 8

This post is about how to apply for a Schengen Visa via the embassy of Greece in Manila for the purpose of tourism. You’ll find the list of requirements and detailed information about the application process from securing a schedule to the actual interview. If you’re applying as a worker or as a seafarer, I’m afraid this post isn’t for you.

Greece just got closer to the Philippines.

Low-cost carrier Scoot, a Singapore Airlines subsidiary, now flies nonstop to Athens from Changi Airport. and because Scoot also directly connects Singapore to many Philippine destinations, this new route opens another avenue for Filipinos to reach Europe much more easily and more affordably.

But because Greece is part of the so-called Schengen Zone, Philippine passport holders will need to secure a Schengen Visa first. It is a travel document that will allow you to enter any of the 26 European states that are part of the Schengen Agreement, including Greece.

If you’re flying to Greece and you’re also planning on visiting any of the Schengen countries, you only need one visa. You don’t need to apply for each of the countries in your itinerary individually.

If they don’t need it, at least you have an extra copy that you can bring with you during the trip. It’s good practice to have photocopies of your important documents when traveling abroad, anyway.

Accomplished Self-Check List. When I applied, this was a requirement. I’m not sure if this is still the case now. but this is simply a checklist enumerating all the requirements with important reminders about the application. download it here.

You can get flight RESERVATIONS, hotel RESERVATIONS, and travel insurance online! We got in touch with Gazelle travel and Tours, a DTI-registered DOT-accredited travel agency so they could easily offer these services to our readers.

HOW TO apply FOR A GREEK SCHENGEN VISA

1. schedule an appointment by email.

There is only one way you can request for an appointment: by email. You can’t simply walk in or call the embassy. I repeat, it has to be done by email.

The email address is visa.man@mfa.gr.

You have to strictly follow a specific template depending on whether you’re applying individually or as a group. You will find the format here:

———————————–
PREFERRED DATE: {DD MONTH YEAR}
Name of Applicant: {LAST NAME, first NAME}
Passport No:
Contact Tel.:
Type of Visa: {SCHENGEN/SHORT TERM or NATIONAL/LONG TERM}
Main country of Destination:
Expected date of Departure: {DD MONTH YEAR}
———————————–

Some important notes:

Once they receive your request, you will get an acknowledgment reply within the next 24 working hours.

If you need to change anything, you may email them at least 24 working hours before your appointment date.

If you need to cancel or reschedule, you may do so by emailing at least 2 working days before the schedule given to you.

That email address is only for visa appointment only. Don’t send your inquiries or other messages to that address.

Actually, items #1 (schedule) and #2 (requirements) of this process are interchangeable. but we choose to prioritize the scheduling because sometimes, the earliest available slot is over a month away. For example, in our case, we emailed in October 25-ish and the earliest free slot was in late November. Thankfully, two earlier slots opened and we were asked by the embassy if we wanted to take them. We did! Lucky, lucky!

2. complete the Schengen Visa requirements.

While we were waiting for our appointment date, we gathered all the required documents as listed above.

Some important notes.

The documents must be arranged in the same order as the list above. even the photocopies of your stamps and visas must be in the same order as they appear on your passports.

Place all the requirements in a long brown envelope. write your last name, first name and contact number in bold capital letters on the upper left corner of the envelope.

The original copies will be returned to you on the same day of application.

3. submit the requirements at the embassy of Greece.

On the day of the appointment, submit the requirements in person. personal appearance is mandatory because you might be interviewed by the consul. failure to show up means forfeiture of your appointment slot.

Prior to last year, most applicants were interviewed. but starting this year, it is no longer the case. They only interview applicants when they have additional questions or clarifications. most applicants will not be required to undergo an interview anymore.

The address of the embassy of Greece is this:

EMBASSY OF GREECE
Unit 701 7F SEDCCO I Building
Corner Rada and Legazpi Streets, Legaspi Village
Makati City, Metro Manila, Philippines 1229

Here’s what you need to do:

Show up at the lobby of the building 5 minutes before your schedule. This gives you time to register, deposit your ID, and climb to the 7th floor. If you arrive earlier, the guard will not let you in until 5 minutes before your schedule.

Once inside the Consular Office, approach the desk right away to register. You will have to write down your name and sign the reg sheet. This sheet also determines who gets entertained first. After registration, take a seat.

Once your name is called, submit your documents. Again, they must be in the same order as the checklist and must be in a long brown envelope. If they have questions, answer promptly and respectfully. You will be asked to take a seat as they check your docs.

Once they see that your docs are complete, you will be called again. You will be given a deposit slip. fill it out with the provided details. (It’s also displayed on the corkboard in one corner of the room.)

Pay the visa fee at the BDO Branch in the opposite building. There is a report that visa fees across all Schengen embassies have increased to EUR 80 per applicant, but I haven’t confirmed this yet. Either way, you will be paying this in pesos. (When I applied, it was only EUR 60 or P3600.) There should be four copies of the transaction slip. One will be left with the bank, two will be submitted to the embassy, and the final copy is yours to keep.

Go back to the embassy and submit your deposit slips.

You will be called again to take your biometrics (photo and fingerprints). After that, await further instructions.

Normally, there will be no interview. but if they need more information, they may invite you to an interview. The interview is done in a separate room, away from other applicants. If you apply as a group, there’s a chance you will be interviewed together, but not always. You will be asked about why you will be traveling and whom you will be traveling with. You will be asked about the details of your itinerary so make sure you know it by heart. The interview is short and straightforward. Be confident when you answer. Don’t be nervous. The embassy is strict and firm, but they are very respectful and pleasant.

After the intervi
